Trade In FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Masala Bazaar Ramadan Trade-In Program

1. What is the Ramadan Trade-In Program?

The Ramadan Trade-In Program allows customers to trade in up to five (5) items from their wardrobe each month. Once your traded-in items sell, you can earn up to $100 in store credit. It’s a sustainability-focused initiative to promote quality over quantity and community sharing during Ramadan.

2. What items can I trade in?

You can trade in clothing, accessories, or other wardrobe items. All items must:

  • Be clean, wearable, and in good condition.
  • Have no stains, tears, missing parts, or significant damage.
  • Match the theme of the month for trading in (Ramadan is Abayas, Dresses, Summer & Event Wear)

We reserve the right to decline items that do not meet these standards.

3. How many items can I trade in?

Each customer can trade in a maximum of five (5) items per month during the program.

4. How does the store credit work?

  • You will earn store credit once your traded-in items are accepted (either online or in-store).
  • The maximum store credit you can earn is $100 per customer in total during the program.
  • The store credit has no expiry date and can be used to purchase items of equal or greater value.
  • Store credit cannot be exchanged for cash.

5. When will my traded-in items be available for purchase?

We aim to collect a target of 500 items before launching the traded-in collection for sale. Once this target is reached, items will be available during Evening Market Nights and online.

6. What are Evening Market Nights?

Evening Market Nights are special Ramadan events starting 5 February where you can shop pre-loved, traded-in items in-store. The events offer a festive atmosphere, exclusive secondhand collections, and themed nights to celebrate sustainability and community.

7. What happens if my items don’t sell?

Unsold items will remain part of Masala Bazaar’s inventory for the duration of the program or until otherwise decided.

9. Can I return items purchased during the program?

No, all pre-loved items purchased through the trade-in program are final sale. No returns, exchanges, or refunds will be accepted.

10. Can I participate if I’m not in Auckland?

Yes! You can participate online by shopping from our website once the collection is launched. However, trade-in submissions must be done in-store.

11. How is this program promoting sustainability?

This initiative encourages community sharing, reduces waste, and promotes the reuse of high-quality items. We want to keep 250kg of clothing out of landfill every month by committing to reselling 500 preloved items each month. By shopping secondhand, you are helping reduce overconsumption and supporting a more sustainable future.

12. Will there be more trade-in programs in the future?

We hope to continue similar sustainability initiatives beyond Ramadan, depending on the success of this program. Stay tuned for updates!
