Collection: Heritage Collection: Truck Art

Pakistani Truck Art represents resistance and reinvention in the face of colonisation, it emerged during the period of British Raj when Fresco painters for Mughal palaces were left without jobs or income.

They turned to painting the Bedford Cargo Trucks and adorning them with fluroscent imagery, mirrors and even woodwork. Each truck carried a unique design and was intended to be so that villagers could identify the cargo by the trucks art.

To this day Bedford trucks are decorated with chamakpatti (shiny sticker!) and watercolour arts and the appreciation for their work carries on in ceramics, home decor and more.

Our range of Pakistani Truck Art home decor supports the talented artisans in Pakistan channeling their talents and crafts into endeavors that allow the world to enjoy the rich history of truck art
